Medicare Part A Costs in 2026
Most Florida seniors pay $0/month for Part A if they or their spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years (40 quarters).
Part A covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care. Your costs if you need hospital care:
- Deductible: $1,676 per benefit period (not per year β per hospital stay)
- Days 1β60: $0 coinsurance after deductible
- Days 61β90: $419/day coinsurance
- Days 91β150 (lifetime reserve): $838/day
- Beyond 150 days: You pay 100%
Medicare Part B Costs in 2026
Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, medical equipment, and lab tests.
- Standard premium: $185/month (deducted from Social Security if receiving benefits)
- Annual deductible: $257
- Coinsurance: 20% of Medicare-approved amount for all covered services
The 20% coinsurance is the biggest risk. There is no out-of-pocket maximum under Original Medicare alone. A serious illness could cost you $10,000β$50,000+ in 20% coinsurance. Plan G covers this 20% entirely. Plan N covers it with small copays.
IRMAA: Higher-Income Seniors Pay More
If your income exceeds certain thresholds, you pay Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amounts (IRMAA) β surcharges on top of the standard Part B and Part D premiums.
2026 IRMAA thresholds (based on 2024 income):
- Individual income $106,000β$133,000: +$74.00/month
- Individual income $133,000β$167,000: +$185.00/month
- Individual income $167,000β$200,000: +$295.80/month
- Individual income $200,000β$500,000: +$406.90/month
- Individual income above $500,000: +$443.90/month
IRMAA applies to both Part B and Part D premiums. If you recently retired and your income has dropped, you can appeal IRMAA using Form SSA-44.
