Medicare Costs in Florida: What You'll Pay in 2026

Medicare Part A Costs in 2026

Most Florida seniors pay $0/month for Part A if they or their spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years (40 quarters).

Part A covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care. Your costs if you need hospital care:

  • Deductible: $1,676 per benefit period (not per year β€” per hospital stay)
  • Days 1–60: $0 coinsurance after deductible
  • Days 61–90: $419/day coinsurance
  • Days 91–150 (lifetime reserve): $838/day
  • Beyond 150 days: You pay 100%
A Medigap Plan G or Plan N covers the $1,676 deductible and all hospital coinsurance.

Medicare Part B Costs in 2026

Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, medical equipment, and lab tests.

  • Standard premium: $185/month (deducted from Social Security if receiving benefits)
  • Annual deductible: $257
  • Coinsurance: 20% of Medicare-approved amount for all covered services

The 20% coinsurance is the biggest risk. There is no out-of-pocket maximum under Original Medicare alone. A serious illness could cost you $10,000–$50,000+ in 20% coinsurance. Plan G covers this 20% entirely. Plan N covers it with small copays.

IRMAA: Higher-Income Seniors Pay More

If your income exceeds certain thresholds, you pay Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amounts (IRMAA) β€” surcharges on top of the standard Part B and Part D premiums.

2026 IRMAA thresholds (based on 2024 income):

  • Individual income $106,000–$133,000: +$74.00/month
  • Individual income $133,000–$167,000: +$185.00/month
  • Individual income $167,000–$200,000: +$295.80/month
  • Individual income $200,000–$500,000: +$406.90/month
  • Individual income above $500,000: +$443.90/month

IRMAA applies to both Part B and Part D premiums. If you recently retired and your income has dropped, you can appeal IRMAA using Form SSA-44.

Total Out-of-Pocket Without Medigap vs. With Plan G

Without Medigap (Original Medicare only):

  • Part B premium: $185/month
  • Part A deductible per hospital stay: $1,676
  • Part B deductible: $257/year
  • 20% coinsurance: Unlimited
  • Annual exposure: Potentially $10,000–$50,000+

With Medigap Plan G:
  • Part B premium: $185/month
  • Plan G premium: ~$160/month (Florida average)
  • Part B deductible: $257/year (only out-of-pocket)
  • 20% coinsurance: $0 β€” Plan G covers it all
  • Annual maximum exposure: $257

Plan G essentially caps your annual medical exposure at $257 plus your monthly premium. For most Florida seniors, this is an exceptional value.
