What Is Plan F and Who Can Get It?
Medicare Supplement Plan F is the most comprehensive Medigap plan ever offered β it covers every Medicare cost-sharing gap, including the Part B deductible ($257 in 2026). With Plan F, you pay $0 out-of-pocket for any Medicare-covered service after your premium.
Important: Plan F is no longer available to people who became newly eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. If your 65th birthday is in 2020 or later, you cannot purchase Plan F. If you were eligible for Medicare before 2020 (turned 65 before 2020, or had Medicare due to disability before 2020), you may still be able to purchase Plan F.
Plan F Coverage: The Most Complete Protection Available
Plan F covers:
- Part A coinsurance and hospital costs (up to 365 extra days)
- Part B coinsurance or copayment (100%)
- Part A deductible ($1,676 per benefit period)
- Part B deductible ($257/year) β the only plan covering this
- Part B excess charges (100%)
- Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
- First 3 pints of blood
- Foreign travel emergency (80% after deductible)
With Plan F, your annual out-of-pocket exposure for Medicare-covered services is effectively $0.
Plan F Premiums in Florida 2026
Because Plan F covers more than Plan G (specifically the $257 Part B deductible), premiums are higher:
- Orlando area: $160β$250/month
- Tampa area: $165β$260/month
- Jacksonville area: $158β$248/month
- South Florida (Miami/Fort Lauderdale): $175β$280/month
Is it worth the extra cost vs. Plan G? Plan F premiums typically run $30β$60/month more than Plan G β or $360β$720/year more. Since the only difference is the $257 Part B deductible, you're paying $360β$720 extra to avoid a $257 annual expense. For most people, Plan G is the better financial value.
High Deductible Plan F: Still Available
A High Deductible version of Plan F (HDF) is still available to those who were eligible for Medicare before 2020. Like HDG, it requires you to meet a high annual deductible ($2,870 in 2026) before coverage kicks in β but it covers everything above that, including the Part B deductible.
If you're eligible for Plan F and looking for the lowest possible Medigap premium with catastrophic protection, High Deductible Plan F may be worth comparing against HDG. Contact T65Navigator for a personalized comparison.
